Welsh Arts Council grant

Welsh Arts Council grant

I received a Welsh Arts Council grant called ‘Tyfiant’ (Growth) in July 2020 to develop tall and large sculptural vessels, to be exhibited both indoors and outdoors, playing attention to pattern, colour variation and colour gradation. As part of this project I acquired a new deep kiln, now installed in a new workshop at the end of the garden. I have been experimenting with the variables of temperature and thickness of glass and the use of props to see how these affect the flow and tone of colour in Kiln-formed glass. I also explored the effect of layering various colours and observing their results when stretched with gravity.

“The movement of warm glass has always interested me. I am continually searching for new possibilities of controlling, increasing, and intercepting the flow of glass as heat and height of drop are varied. I’m eager to continue this exploration and always excited to see and record the effects of these variables on my current work with colour and pattern.”
